The LoJack® System Helps Corona and Riverside, California Police Recover Volkswagen GTI Stolen From Dealership in 10 Minutes
- November 1, 2013
This case involves a burglary at a large auto dealership in Corona, CA. The thieves took three vehicles, several keys to new cars, key chains, a television and miscellaneous auto parts and merchandise. Thanks to local law enforcement assisted by the LoJack® system, one of the vehicles was recovered in only 10 minutes after activation.
On September 14th, 2013, the dealership contacted Corona Police to report the incident. Detectives verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in one of the vehicles, a 2010 Volkswagen GTI.
A few minutes later, Riverside PD Flight Officers flying Helicopter RPD-1 picked up the homing signal from the GTI on their on board LoJack tracking computer. They tracked the car to Mariposa Street in Corona, where it was parked in front of a residence. Corona Police ground units were notified to stop another vehicle which had just left the residence. The operator of the departing vehicle was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Her vehicle was registered to the address where the GTI was found. Items taken in the burglary were found at that residence and in the stopped vehicle. The undamaged VW was soon returned to the relieved dealership.
