The LoJack® Early Warning System Helps Tuckahoe Village, NY and Yonkers Police Recover Stolen 2012 Yamaha YZF-R1 and Three Other Stolen Motorcycles

  • May 30, 2013

The LoJack® Early Warning system is an enhanced LoJack product that contacts you by phone, email and/or text if your vehicle is moved without your permission. The Sunnyside, Queens, NY resident in this case got an early AM phone call call on May 23rd, 2013, letting him know his 2012 Yamaha YZF-R1 was taken, so he could call police right away to get his LoJack unit activated and his bike recovered.

After receiving a call from the Yamaha’s owner stating that his motorcycle was stolen from his residence, officers from the New York Police 108th Precinct verified the theft and entered the motorcycle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the bike, which was installed at New York Yamaha/Honda in Long Island City, NY.

A short time later, officers from Yonkers Police picked up the homing signals from the stolen Yamaha on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle. They requested backup from surrounding towns and tracked the signal to a row of private parking garages behind a multi-story apartment building in Tuckahoe. After pinpointing the precise garage, Tuckahoe PD obtained a search warrant. Officers recovered the stolen Yamaha as well as three other stolen motorcycles. A suspect was arrested and the undamaged YZF-R1 was returned to an extremely happy owner.
